How Do I Select a Divorce Lawyer

On Behalf of | Apr 15, 2019 | Divorce

How do I select a divorce lawyer in Carlsbad, Encinitas, Oceanside, Vista or anywhere in Carlsbad?  How can you tell if you have selected the right attorney for your divorce?  The first thing you should look for is experience in our North county family law courts.  Recently, one of our clients commented on the number of people who greeted our partner Pierre as they made their way to Court.  “Everybody loves Pierre,” she said at one point.

Experience provides two strong advantages:  the knowledge of what has worked in the past for couples in similar circumstances and how each Judge tends to apply the law to their cases, as as  well as the relationships with other attorneys and the respect of the Court to be able to negotiate effective agreements and get things done.

California has provided the “Certified Specialist” program to help the public to answer the question “How do I select a divorce lawyer?”  In order to become a Certified Specialist in family law our attorneys were required to demonstrate a “high level of experience” in family law, complete additional continuing educational courses and pass a required exam.  To become a Certified Specialist each lawyer must be recommended by several of their peers as well as judges and other members of the Court.  Both Dan Burke and Pierre Domercq are California Family Law Certified Specialists.

Finally, read client reviews.  Quality leaves a mark and the reviews of satisfied clients provide confidence.  Our client’s reviews have often spoken to the successful outcomes we’ve achieved, our professionalism and responsiveness as well as the care and quality of our paralegals and office staff.

How do I select a divorce lawyer in Carlsbad, Encinitas, Oceanside or anywhere in Carlsbad?  A little homework should yield a short list of experienced, local divorce and family law Certified Specialists.  The final step is to meet with them to see if they seem to “fit” with you.  You see, part of our formal title is “Counselor at Law.”  We take this role seriously.  Your divorce lawyer should also be an effective counselor and guide through this process.  You’ll need to make strong, informed decisions and our team will help you to navigate the process of divorce and prepare you for a new road forward.
