Is the New Year an Opportunity to Start a New Chapter After a Divorce?

On Behalf of | Jan 1, 2022 | Divorce

Most people don’t wish to face the end of a marriage.  There might be another way to look at things: is the new year an opportunity to start a new chapter after a divorce?

Divorce is usually viewed as a very negative event and there are many things to be concerned about.  However, while the process can be extremely challenging, a divorce can also be the right decision for you and your family.  This can be an important opportunity to make sure you have laid the foundation for the next stage of your life.

There are a few things you need to know if you are about to start a new chapter after a divorce in San Diego.  If you have children it is important to develop a strategy regarding child custody and parenting time and how you want to enjoy life with your child(ren) after the divorce.  How will you open the conversation with your spouse regarding the negotiation of a parenting plan moving forward?

The key to remember here is also the bedrock principle of California Family Law when it comes to children: the best interests of the child.  In the absence of genuine issues such as domestic violence, alcohol or drug abuse or issues associated with parental alienation the Court presumes it is in the best interests of a child to spend roughly equal quality time with each parent.  The good news here is your child custody and parenting time plan can be as creative as necessary to reflect the existing rhythms of each child’s life and how each parent will be a part of each child’s life going forward.

While the new year is an opportunity to start a new chapter after a divorce the Certified Family Law Specialists at Burke & Domercq work to make sure you have the resources necessary to move forward.  Spousal support and child support are often necessary to make the transition from a marriage to life after the divorce.

The process of starting over requires extensive planning.  Our experienced divorce attorneys will work with you to develop specific strategies for each step of the process.  This includes the self-care and emotional support required to complete the process, heal and move forward into your new life.
