Recent Study Shows Dads Playing a More Equal Role After Divorce

The Pew Research Center conducted a recent study which Dads playing a more equal role after divorce over the past few decades. The study also showed that fathers identified their role as a parent in child custody and parenting time to be a central component of their identify.

The study showed 46 percent of fathers report they find raising their children to be enjoyable all of the time (which is an interesting contrast to 41 percent of mothers who responded in the same manner). Although only 39 percent of dads believe they are doing a “very good job” of raising their kids versus 51 percent of mothers.

Fathers today spend three times as many hours a week on child care as the study reported for 1965. Half of the fathers in the survey wished they could spend more time with their kids.

Interestingly, the study also showed that 70% of Americans believe it is important for a newborn baby to bond with both parents. The conclusions reached in the Pew Research Center’s study support California’s evolving understanding of the importance of both parents in the lives of their children.
