Taking Care of Yourself During a Carlsbad Divorce

On Behalf of | Mar 30, 2021 | Divorce

Have a strategy for taking care of yourself during a Carlsbad divorce.  The demands on your time, energy and emotions are high.  It’s very easy to become overwhelmed in the midst of a divorce.  Some days it feels like you’re just treading water all day.  It’s normal to attempt to distract yourself with all the responsibilities of your home, kids, work, groceries, and all of life’s chores.

However, the most important thing you can do is set aside regular time for taking care of yourself during a Carlsbad divorce.  How can you ensure you have this priority time for your own healing and well being?

This isn’t an all or nothing, “well if I can’t get in my yoga I should just forget about it altogether.”  This is going to require you to set aside some of the most important time to plan it out and make it work.

What are the things which bring you peace?  What do you really enjoy doing?  This is just about you.

Try setting a timer for 3 minutes and just write down whatever answers come into your mind.

“A warm cup of coffee and a good book.” “Scented candles.”  “Yoga.”  “Hiking.”  “Playing with the dog.”  “A walk on the beach.”  “Murder mysteries.”  “The gym.”  “Travel.”  “Meditation.”

They can be big or small.  “A vacation to X.”

The next step in taking care of yourself during a Carlsbad divorce is to schedule “you time” regularly;  Look for 10 to 15 minute windows a couple times a day when you can accomplish some of the smaller joys on your list.  Every day.  Schedule the 30 to 45 minute trips to the gym or yoga sessions.  Put them in your calendar.  It isn’t real until it’s scheduled.

One of most surprising ideas for taking care of yourself during a Carlsbad divorce is to take up something completely new.  “I’ve always wanted to learn how to X…”  Learning a new activity, skill or practice releases positive endorphins which elevate your mood and actually reduce pain.  This is true when you exercise as well.
