What is a Family Law Certified Specialist

What is a California Family Law Certified Specialist and why does this matter in a Carlsbad Divorce case? The answer comes down to 3 important issues:

1. accomplishing your goals and objectives
2. time
3. money

Most people who decide to divorce in California actually attempt to handle the process on their own.  According to the State of California more than 80% of those who file for divorce in California are not represented by an attorney at the time of the filing.

The reality is the vast majority of these cases bog down for a variety of reasons including the difficulty of associated paperwork, reconciliation of differences between the parties and tactics used by the other party to delay or manipulate the outcome of the divorce.  The paperwork for child custody and parenting time, spousal support and division of retirement assets (QDROs) is quite legally complex.

Attempting to complete a divorce without an attorney usually costs the parties in terms of time to complete the divorce (much more than a year according to a local Family Law judge), emotion, lost wages from missing work as well as the actual monetary cost.  Most require the assistance of a skilled divorce attorney in order to complete the process.

This is why it is important to speak with an experienced attorney at the outset of your case.  But how do you know what to look for?  There are so many attorneys who offer their services for divorce in Carlsbad.

The State Bar of California has established a method to help identify attorneys with specific experience, skill and expertise within specific areas of law such as family law.  To become a California Family Law Certified Specialist an attorney must have years of experience while devoting a significant amount of their practice to the specific area of certification.

Attorneys who seek certified specialization must have favorable evaluations and recommendations by other attorneys and judges who are familiar with the quality of their work.  They must complete additional training, and once certified must fulfill ongoing Continuing Legal Education (CLE) and reporting requirements.
